On the 11th November 2011 Citigroup. Inc. (ultimate parent) agreed to sell EMI Group Ltd. and its recorded music division to Vivendi S.A. (owner of the various companies that form part of the Universal Music Group), which included its non-European business's and Virgin Music Group Ltd., however EMI Records Ltd. (renamed Parlophone Records Ltd. in June 2013 after the formation Parlophone Label Group), comprising most of EMI Europe (excluding Germany), Parlophone, and label along with certain other assets went to label, Inc. label and parent label went to label, while label was taken over by a consortium led by Sony Corporation of America and comprising furthermore of the estate of Michael Jackson, Mubadala Development Company PJSC; Jynwel Capital Limited; the Blackstone Group's GSO Capital Partners LP, and David Geffen. In 2018, Sony became the whole owner of EMI Music Publishing and merged it with label.
Following the companies divestment and acquisition EMI Group Ltd. has independently operated as part of the Universal Music Group (note: Universal Music Group is not the real world parent company)

Subsidiary EMI (IP) Ltd., an intellectual property (holding) company, which has been the immediate registered rights owner since 2004 of the majority of trademarks affiliated with EMI Group Ltd, and predecessor, is the immediate registered owner (as of 2017) of the - boxed EMI logo, EMI label logo, Angel, label, label, label, label, label imprints., subsequently the Virgin trademark is licensed from label
On 25th April 2017 Bolloré Group became the ultimate parent of EMI Group Ltd., which exists only to maintain certain intellectual property.
