Condé Nast was established by NYC-born publisher Condé Montrose Nast (1873—1942), initially as Vogue Company, after he purchased an iconic [b]Vogue[/b] fashion magazine in 1909. He incorporated Condé Nast Publications holding in 1922.
In 1959, renowned publisher and broadcasting entrepreneur Samuel Irving Newhouse Sr (1895—1979) purchased Condé Nast for $5,000,000 as an anniversary gift for his wife, Mitzi, who loved Vogue, merging it with his private company, Advance Publications. See also The Condé Nast Publications, Inc.
