Australian label founded in 1988 by the INXS manager Chris Murphy (artist on Discogs), Sebastian Chase and Justin Van Stom.
While 'rooArt' is a record label, it's also simply credited as 'rooArt' for ℗ / ©. Alternatively the parent company 'rooArt Pty. Ltd.' is also credited for its role as a Copyright holder.
**Note that there are a number of Discogs entries which incorrectly credit 'rooArt' as the label, because the logo for it's subsidiary 'Ra Records' is often overlooked.**
It's possible to discern the period in which a rooArt release was issued/reissued by confirming the 'Distributed By' entity:
- when rooArt began in 1988 their releases were marketed by PolyGram.
- from 1992 to April 1996 rooArt were distributed by Warner Music Australia / Warner Music Australasia (cat# starting with 450, sometimes 903, 206 or 063).
- from June 1996 to September 1996 rooArt were distributed by label (cat# starting with 206).
- from November 1996 to 2004 rooArt were distributed by label / label (cat# starting with 7432). On September 29th 1996 rooArt / Ra Records was acquired by label for AU$5 million.
- from late-2004 BMG Australia/Limited became label.
(*Note that this distributor distinction only applies to local Australian bands/artists/releases, because for international releases the credits usually show that the release was licensed to rooArt — not who distributed it within Australia.)
Distributor: label (Germany) (1993-).
