The Royal Dramatic Theatre, founded in 1788 and commonly known as Dramaten, is Sweden’s National Theatre.
'Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern' (the Royal Dramatic Theatre) has an assignment from the government to perform classical theatre, newly written Swedish and international theatre, and theatre for children and youth. The theatre is owned by the Swedish state.
The theatre building at 'Nybroplan/Almlöfsgatan' has been the home of the Royal Dramatic Theatre since 1908.
This great art noveau-building houses five stages: the Main Stage, the Small Stage, the Painting Hall, the Lion's Ball and the Tower Room. The Main Stage seats up to 770 spectators. A separate black box-stage is situated a few blocks away, at Linnégatan.
