[i]Detroit has had a contingency in every major musical thrust throughout this century. The world is about to step off the 20th century ledge and musically Detroit is again represented. The "big turn" counterparts "Kid Rock", "Eminem", and "Sponge" have a new city brethren to hold the Detroit banner in Goth/Electro/Metal "Lab Animals".
The members of Lab Animals have been beating around Detroit for years. The band came together after casual success with earlier bands such as the successful European band "Shock Therapy" and "Bill's Corpse" that included members of "Jesus Lizard". The members: Zeke McNeil -vocals , Richard Newman and Greg Peterson as instrumentalists have constructed an impressive infusion of Goth/Electro/Metal.
Lab Animals delivers the keyboard dominated guitar music, in the realm of Ministry or Nine Inch Nails, but this is clearly a genre association. Lab Animals have a style that is their own unique interpretation of life, only as they know it. All the members are veterans of the Goth Electro wasteland and contribute their own individual character of introspective industrial mayhem.
Zeke, whose vocalizations have caused one local writer to label him "the thin behemoth", can be described at the very least as unyielding.
Richard, who originally hails from Dallas,Texas, flavors his deliberate
guitar style with performing damaging keyboards and soundscapes.
Greg, whose distinct sounds and delivery cement the sonic propelled music with fierce melodic bite and claw.
The live shows are explosive events with striking visuals that enhance the audio assault. Aided by additional musicians like Joe Sopkowicz (bass) and a percussionist, Lab Animals have brought their live (event) shows to many cities national and international. Their explosive mixture of fear, anger and infectious grooves have made them a popular act among the Goth/industrial circuits. They have performed or toured with the likes of "Killing Joke", "Thrill Kill Cult", "The Jesus Lizard" and "Love and Rockets". Integrating electro-theater with a melodic, aggressive approach to bombast their fanatic following with neoteric song structures and anthem like choruses.
When oppression and depression from without and within your world soak in the conscience then the understanding of Lab Animals begins to focus, reaching deep into our psychological traumas of modern existence.
