Remmert Damian Joe Hannema was born in Manchester in 1971. At a young age, he moved to the Netherlands, where he has lived ever since. In 1988, his mother returned to England, and it was there that he first discovered electronic music through mixtapes. He soon began buying vinyl, initially gravitating towards releases on Kickin’, Production House, Reinforced, and Plus 8, among others.
Later, he was influenced by DJs and producers on labels such as LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking imprint, Dee Jay Recordings, and the emerging sound of drum & bass. From 1993, he started visiting London regularly and became interested in techno, which was very popular in the city at the time. After attending clubs such as the Soundshaft and events like Megatripolis, he developed a taste for driving English, German, and American techno on labels such as Proper, Tresor, Internal, and Axis.
These formative years greatly shaped his musical taste. The energy and characteristic sound of that era, combined with the deep and somewhat industrial techno produced in the late 1990s, continue to be evident in his sets. His performances are a crossover between English and American techno.
