African singer and musician, born in 1950 in Dakar, Senegal. Internationally renowned for blending traditional Senegalese folk music with modern pop and jazz.
His daughter is French-Senegalese filmmaker Mati Diop. His brother was Senegalese film director artist (1945-1998).
