Founded in Darmstadt, Germany in 1991 by Markus Popp, Sebastian Oschatz, Frank Metzger and Holger Lindmüller.
Holger Lindmüller left about 1993, and Oval became a trio, then Sebastian Oschatz and Frank Metzger left in 1995, and since that Oval became a solo project of Markus Popp.
