German Punk Rock band from Hamburg, founded in 1984 by Schorsch Kamerun, Ted Gaier, artist and artist.
When Ted Gaier, who came from Ulm to Hamburg wanted to found a new band, he met the other three musicians, who were hailing from Timmendorfer Strand, in the Hamburg Punk scene. The band was formed as Fun Punk band, i.e. with ironic lyrics, Punk parodies of known songs and with live shows based on joking entertainment.
When the band came to the conclusion, that this kind of music is without future, they started to be more serious with songs critical towards society and politics. With these goals, the band was one of the prototypes for the "Hamburger Schule"-movement, which became genre-forming for the German Independent music scene in the 1990's and beyond. In that phase and in the years after, the band develloped into an Avantgardistic and Artistic driven band, which also incorporated elements from other music styles, e.g. Electronic music and Sprechgesang. From the 1990's until today, the band underwent several line-up changes. While the band itself stayed active even after 40 years of its existence, the band members were active in numerous side projects and bands beyond the "Goldenen Zitronen".
