A British pop group formed in the early 1980s by artist (vocals, guitar) and artist (saxophone), together with artist (keyboards), artist (bass guitar), and artist (drums). Initially names Harlequins, the band eventually adopted the name Red Box, under which they released their debut single, "Chenko" in 1983. Shortly thereafter, the band shrunk to a duo and adopted a more synthpop style. In August 1985 the duo had their first UK top 10 hits with the anthemic "Lean On Me (Ah-Li-Ayo)", followed in 1986 by an ambitious album 108892 on which the duo's sound was augmented by a small army of guest musicians, and from which was lifted a second hit "For America". Put out of action for a while by contractual disputes, Red Box finally reactive in 1989, with Close replaced by Alastair Gavin. The second album 244021 suffered from a lack of promotion and Red Box officially "retired" soon after.
The band returned to the scene in 2010 with their third album, 292316, released in October 11, 2010. The group is currently led by singer-songwriter Simon Toulson-Clarke and features a third line-up of backing musicians. Red Box promoted Plenty with live performances, especially in Poland, where the songs "The Sign" and "Hurricane" achieved number one status on the Lista Przebojów Trójki charts (5 weeks and 4 weeks respectively).
